# AWS Console: create a CloudWatch alarm — CloudWatch console → Alarms → All alarms → Create alarm

## Steps
1. Open the CloudWatch console (console.aws.amazon.com/cloudwatch/).
2. In the navigation pane, choose "Alarms", "All alarms".
3. Choose "Create alarm", then "Select Metric", find and select the metric to watch, choose "Select metric".
4. Under Conditions, set the threshold condition and, under "Additional configuration", the datapoints-to-alarm and missing-data treatment; choose "Next".
5. Under Notification, select an SNS topic to notify on ALARM/OK/INSUFFICIENT_DATA state; choose "Next".
6. Enter a name and description for the alarm, choose "Next", review, then choose "Create alarm".

## End state
The alarm is listed under Alarms → All alarms; it transitions to ALARM state and notifies the configured SNS topic once the metric breaches the threshold for the configured number of evaluation periods.
