# AWS Console: add a security group rule — VPC/EC2 console → Security Groups → select group → configure rules

## Steps
1. Open the VPC or EC2 console and go to "Security Groups".
2. Select the security group to modify (each has its own inbound and outbound rule sets).
3. Use the group's rule configuration page to add an inbound or outbound rule, specifying the source/destination, port range, and protocol.

## End state
The new rule is listed under the security group's inbound or outbound rules; traffic matching it is now allowed to/from associated resources (security groups are stateful, so a matching inbound rule's response traffic is allowed out automatically).

## Note
AWS's best practices on this page specifically warn against opening SSH (22) or RDP (3389) to 0.0.0.0/0, and against large open port ranges.

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
