# AWS Console: create an IAM user — IAM console → Users → Create user

## Steps
1. Sign in to the AWS Management Console and open the IAM console (console.aws.amazon.com/iam/).
2. In the navigation pane, choose "Users".
3. Create the user, optionally enabling console access (a password) and/or programmatic access.
4. Attach permissions, either directly or (recommended) via a group, and optionally add tags.
5. Provide the user their sign-in information (password and account sign-in URL).

## End state
The user is listed on the Users page; if console access was enabled they can sign in at the account's sign-in URL with the given password.

## Note
In AWS's newer account experience, you cannot create IAM users with console access at all — human access is instead granted by inviting them as a team member (docs link: Invite team members). This record covers the classic IAM-user flow the docs still describe; check which experience the account uses before following it.
