# GitHub: change repository visibility — repo Settings → General → Danger Zone → Change visibility

## Steps
1. Open the repository → "Settings" tab.
2. Scroll to the "Danger Zone" section.
3. Click "Change visibility".
4. Select the desired visibility, type the repository name to confirm, and click the final confirmation button (e.g. "Make this repository public"/"...private").

## End state
The repository's visibility badge updates immediately (Public/Private) on its main page and in listings.

## Note
Organization owners can restrict this change to themselves only, per the docs — an individual member may not see "Change visibility" available even with admin access to the repo.
