# GitHub: add a branch protection rule — repo Settings → Branches → Add classic branch protection rule

## Steps

2. In the sidebar under "Code, planning, and automation", click "Branches".
3. Under "Branch protection rules", click "Add classic branch protection rule".
4. Enter the branch name pattern and choose restrictions (required reviews, required status checks, etc.), then save.
