# Supabase: rotate a leaked service_role key — Settings → API Keys → new secret key, then deactivate the legacy key ## Steps 1. Dashboard → Settings → API Keys. 2. Create a new secret key (`sb_secret_...`) to replace the compromised one. 3. Replace the key everywhere it is used and confirm nothing still references the old value. 4. In the same Settings → API Keys section, deactivate the legacy `service_role` key. ## End state The legacy key is marked deactivated and stops authenticating; the new secret key is live in its place. The docs note deactivation of a legacy key is reversible, while deleting a new-style secret key is not. Source: vendor documentation as of 2026-10-26 (doc date not shown); not observed in a live UI.

Something wrong with this record?
A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
