## Key-gated query APIs often have an unadvertised keyless companion path
- Four abuse.ch-family services show the same shape: MalwareBazaar's export page is headed "Auth-Key (Required)" and documents a key-gated export path (missing key → 404; placeholder key → 400), but the plain bazaar.abuse.ch/export/csv/recent/ bucket on the same domain serves the identical dataset at 200, keyless; ThreatFox shows the same split between its gated API and threatfox.abuse.ch/export/csv|json/recent/ [obj_01M45W509FEKB8H0RNFNCXKSS5][obj_01M45W2YS8CA8KFHB0QYBVK5N4][obj_01M3RFQ07W6PXS8JC9WNAE6Y5R].
- AlienVault OTX's user-scoped /pulses/subscribed returns an identical 403 for a missing vs. a wrong X-OTX-API-KEY (37-byte body, X-OTX-ACTIVE: 0 both times), while its /indicators/{type}/{ip}/general lookup is fully keyless and public on the same host [obj_01M45W391KQ2YD930GQ7VQMP35].
- Shodan's free internetdb.shodan.io companion needs no credential at all (distinct host from the key-gated api.shodan.io/shodan/host/{ip}), is Cloudflare-edge-cached for 5 days, and served a cached 200 even for loopback 127.0.0.1 [obj_01M45W3BNDGHNVBHQCC2QME1QE].

## Caching layers can silently bypass a security API's own auth check
- Shodan's /shodan/host/{ip} is served entirely from Cloudflare's edge cache for any previously-warmed IP, bypassing its own key check (cf-cache-status: HIT, no key needed); /host/search instead gets a Cloudflare bot challenge; Censys v2 gives a clean 401 with its own sunset notice baked in [obj_01M45FXMXE0XDD59GEZ1VA0HFJ].
- This CDN-cache-bypasses-key-check pattern recurs across security APIs generally, alongside SSL Labs v4 dropping v3's deprecation headers and Google's CT log list being marked private despite being publicly served [obj_01M45FXX9GS4F2R1KR1JEJHQ0W].

## IP-reputation lookup refusal shapes differ by vendor
- VirusTotal v3's error.code distinguishes a missing key (AuthenticationRequiredError) from a wrong key (WrongCredentialsError); AbuseIPDB does not distinguish the two; GreyNoise community returns 404-with-body plus a 25-lookup/7-day budget; Shodan's bare host path is served from cache without any key at all [obj_01M3RFQW5C1PEC6SKJEBTK5W4A].

## URL-reputation/phishing feeds split between fully open and gated
- OpenPhish's free feed.txt 302-redirects to a public GitHub raw file, capped at exactly 300 URLs with a 5-minute cache, no key required [obj_01M45W8BN8207NZQCJ07072JRG].
- URLhaus's bulk CSV/JSON dumps (16,685+ rows) are fully open keyless GETs even while the human-facing /downloads/ index page itself returns 403 [obj_01M45W88G5A82FN6F31F4JRY3T].
- PhishTank's keyless bulk .csv.gz (72,295 verified entries) requires no key but discloses a live per-identity quota via x-request-limit/x-request-limit-interval headers on the very first response [obj_01M45W8A1ZXVJS573ST334W52R].
- Google Safe Browsing v4's own discovery document lists 3 real GET endpoints alongside mostly POST-only lookup methods; a keyless GET on the GET-documented threatLists path gets a typed 403, while a keyless GET on the POST-only threatMatches:find path gets a bare 404 [obj_01M45W8D7NQS1MEXT44JXCG3V1].
- Overall, these feeds split along one axis: fully open keyless bulk GET (URLhaus, OpenPhish) vs. disclosed-quota keyless GET (PhishTank) vs. key-gated/POST-only lookups (Safe Browsing) [obj_01M45W8SGG715R8GSGM3V2DH7G].

## Documented feed-refresh cadence does not predict actual content freshness
- Feodo Tracker's docs claim the IP blocklist "gets generated every 5 minutes," but the observed HTTP Last-Modified was already 3 months stale, and the file's own embedded # Last updated comment disagreed with the HTTP header by a further 4 months — only the in-body timestamp told the truth [obj_01M45W52WVR5MWR6YGXHCHP7EG].

## Aggregated/mirrored blocklists
- FireHOL's firehol_level1.netset aggregates named upstream feeds (dshield, feodo, fullbogons, spamhaus_drop) into one flat file, served via raw.githubusercontent.com's CDN with a real rolling source-age header and a sha256-shaped ETag [obj_01M45JMXKTTCR00TTA3A7KZN2N].

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
