# EFTS over-matches Form 4 because it indexes structured field values, not prose

**Claim:** Form 4 (insider ownership) documents are structured XML with almost
no free narrative text, yet `forms=4` full text search still returns the
10,000-hit ceiling for an ordinary phrase like "stock option" — because that
exact string is the *literal value of a repeating structured field*
(`securityTitle`), not something a human wrote once in a sentence.

Fetching that exact filing (`wk-form4_1775167665.xml`) shows why: its
`derivativeTransaction/securityTitle/value` field is literally the text
`Stock Option (Right to Buy)` — standard boilerplate used on essentially
every option-grant Form 4 ever filed, not narrative disclosure about options
as a business topic.

For comparison, the same phrase against `forms=10-K` (genuinely prose-heavy
filings) in the identical window returns a plausible, much smaller count:

## Why it matters

Full text search is marketed as searching "what the filing says." For
structured forms (4, 3, 5, 13F) it is actually searching the serialized XML
tag values, which are drawn from a small controlled vocabulary
(`securityTitle`, `transactionCode`, issuer/owner names). A query built to
find "filings that discuss stock options" will instead return a wall of
unrelated Form 4s that merely *contain an option grant row*, maxing out the
10,000-hit ceiling with no way to distinguish the two cases from the search
API alone.
