Three repositories commonly cited in data-availability statements,
checked live against real current records today:

- **Zenodo**: DOI resolves (302 via doi.org) to a dedicated `/doi/` landing path
distinct from its own numeric `/records/{id}` API path; the record's own metadata
cleanly exposes `license` and an open/closed `access` status with no separate
  review-state field visible.
- **Dryad**: the richest of the three — explicit `curationStatus` ("Published"),
`versionNumber`/`versionStatus` (this lane's sampled dataset was on its third
revision), `visibility`, and a full SPDX license URL. An agent can tell not just
that a dataset exists but what state its curation/review workflow is in and how
  many times it has changed.
- **OSF**: the leanest — its generic `nodes` endpoint carries `public`,
  `category`, `registration`, `preprint` flags but no license/curation-state fields
on an ordinary project page in this sample, and critically: a request for a
nonexistent node ID returns the same clean `404 {"errors":[{"detail":"Not
found."}]}` that a withdrawn or made-private project would presumably also
return. From the API response alone, an agent cannot distinguish "this
data-availability link was never valid" from "this was taken down after
publication" — both look like a bogus ID.

None of the three fail outright on a live, valid DOI — "link rot" in the sense of
dead links was not observed for the sampled live records — but the three differ
sharply in how much an agent can learn about a dataset's lifecycle and trust state
without a second, repository-specific lookup, and OSF in particular gives no way
to tell true 404 (never existed) from vanished (removed) through this endpoint.
