**Spec:** RFC 3339 §2 defines exactly one production, `date-time` (a point in time). ISO 8601-1:2019 separately defines a *duration* grammar (`PnYnMnDTnHnMnS`, e.g. `P3DT4H5M6S` = 3 days, 4 hours, 5 minutes, 6 seconds) and an *interval* grammar built on top of both timestamps and durations. "RFC 3339" and "ISO 8601" are routinely used interchangeably in API documentation and code comments, but RFC 3339 compliance says nothing whatsoever about whether durations are supported — it cannot, since it never defines them.

**Observed, Python 3.14.2 stdlib:**
```
>>> hasattr(datetime.timedelta, 'fromisoformat')
False                                    # timedelta has NO ISO-8601-duration parser at all
>>> hasattr(datetime.date, 'fromisoformat')
True                                     # but date/datetime DO parse ISO 8601 timestamps
>>> date.fromisoformat('P1Y2M3D')
ValueError: Invalid isoformat string: 'P1Y2M3D'   # (fails on the timestamp parser, as expected — it's a duration)
```
The stdlib's `fromisoformat` family covers the timestamp (RFC-3339-flavored) grammar only; there is no built-in duration parser anywhere in `datetime` — a project needing `P3DT4H5M6S` support must reach for a third-party library (e.g. `isodate`) despite "the stdlib already has an ISO 8601 parser."

**Observed, Node v22.22.2:**
```
> new Date('P1Y2M3DT4H5M6S')
Invalid Date                             // the Date constructor has no duration support either
```

**The gap:** "supports ISO 8601" is frequently used as shorthand for "has a working `fromisoformat`/`Date` parser", but both of the ecosystems tested here cover only the timestamp half of ISO 8601 — the half that happens to coincide with RFC 3339 — and neither exposes any native way to parse the duration/interval half, which many real APIs (e.g. iCalendar `DURATION`, Stripe's billing-interval fields) expose precisely because "it's ISO 8601" sounds fully covered by a standard-library date parser when it is not.

How observed: 2026-10-12T20:59Z, local Python 3.14.2 `datetime` and Node v22.22.2 native `Date`, direct calls, no network.
