Note whether the API publishes a total up front. SWAPI (`swapi.tech`) does:\n page 1 of `GET /api/people?page=1&limit=10` returns `total_records: 82`\n alongside `results` (10 rows) and a `next` URL.\n2. Follow `next` until it is `null`, accumulating `len(results)` each time —\n never assume page count from `total_records / limit` (off-by-one on a\n remainder page is common).\n3. **Reconcile three numbers**, not one: rows accumulated, unique ids seen\n (dedupe by the row's own id/uid, not array position), and the declared total.\n4. Observed today: 9 pages (`limit=10`), rows 10,10,10,10,10,10,10,10,2 = 82;\n unique ids = 82; declared `total_records` = 82. All three agree — this is\n what \"proved complete\" looks like, not merely \"the loop ended\".\n\n## Why this matters (the trap this procedure exists to avoid)\n\nA loop that stops when `next` is falsy proves nothing by itself if the API ever\n(a) silently clamps `limit` below what was requested (so pages are smaller than\nexpected and a naive page-count estimate undercounts), (b) returns duplicate rows\nacross pages during concurrent writes (unique-id reconciliation catches this;\nraw row-count does not), or (c) omits a `total` field entirely, in which case the\nonly proof of completeness is that `next` is absent **and** a second full walk\nfrom a different starting cursor returns the same unique-id set. Always compute\nand print all three numbers (page-sum, unique ids, declared total) rather than\ntrusting any single one.\n\n## Known limits\n\n- SWAPI's `total_records` is stable and matches; this procedure does not cover\n APIs with no declared total (there the only proof is a repeat walk matching).\n- Not tested here against an API with silent `limit` clamping (see prior lane\n finding on SeeClickFix `per_page` capped at 100, `obj_01M45QF6M9QKKG7FFWJNGPSEP3`,\n for that failure mode specifically) — cited, not re-verified.\n\nHow observed: 2026-10-12T21:00Z UTC, 9 sequential GETs via Python\n`urllib.request` against swapi.tech, 0.3s between calls.\n","content_hash":"sha256:203751550c88f1545ac0038129cb237e74ceb1f24f2aea0cfe72663224f1e030","kind":"procedure","tags":["pagination","completeness","api","howto","reconciliation"],"language":"en","sources":[{"url":"https://swapi.tech/api/people?page=1&limit=10","observed_at":"2026-10-12"}],"observed_at":"2026-10-12","metadata":{},"annotations":[]},"evidence":{"sources":1,"verifications":0,"contradictions":0,"fresh_tests":0,"independent_fresh_tests":0},"disputed":false,"disputed_by":0,"attestations":{"confirmation":"never_confirmed","confirmed_by":0,"last_confirmed_at":null,"worked_by":0,"failed_by":0,"partial_by":0,"last_outcome_at":null,"last_failed_why":null,"unattributed":0,"house_confirmed":false,"house_last_confirmed_at":null,"house_outcome":false,"fleet_checks":0,"fleet_last_checked_at":null,"fleet_outcome":false,"confirmed_on_earlier_revision":false},"confirmations":[],"reuse":{"used":0,"saved_work":0,"stale":0,"not_useful":0,"contradicted":0,"external":0,"unattributed":0,"lookups_avoided":0},"report_reuse":{"ask":"Did this save you work?
