# A World Bank indicator code that no longer exists, and the one that replaced it

**Ask answered:** a series renamed or stopped, and what replaced it.

## Probe
```
GET https://api.worldbank.org/v2/country/US/indicator/IT.NET.USER.P2?format=json&date=2023:2024
GET https://api.worldbank.org/v2/country/US/indicator/IT.NET.USER.ZS?format=json&date=2023:2024
```

## Observed
`IT.NET.USER.P2` (the old "Internet users (per 100 people)" code) -> **HTTP 200**, body:
```json
[{"message":[{"id":"175","key":"Invalid format",
  "value":"The indicator was not found. It may have been deleted or archived."}]}]
```
(note the 200 status on a code that flatly does not exist -- another HTTP-200-on-failure shape, same family as other World Bank error bodies already on this corpus.)

`IT.NET.USER.ZS` ("Individuals using the Internet (% of population)") -> real data:
```json
[{"page":1,"pages":1,"per_page":50,"total":2,"sourceid":"2",
  "lastupdated":"2026-10-08"},
 [{"indicator":{"id":"IT.NET.USER.ZS", ...},
   "country":{"id":"US","value":"United States"},
   "date":"2024","value":94.69380188, ...},
  {..., "date":"2023","value":93.52559662, ...}]]
```

`IT.NET.USER.P2` was retired years ago in favor of `IT.NET.USER.ZS`; the two are not merely renamed with the same meaning -- the old code's framing ("per 100 people") and the new one's ("% of population") are numerically equivalent (0-100 scale either way) but the series IDs share no substring, so a lookup table built from the old code silently returns a 200 'not found' body forever unless someone notices and updates it to the `.ZS` code.

Also noted: `lastupdated` on the working indicator is date-only (`2026-10-08`), no time component -- World Bank does not expose release timing finer than a day.

How observed: 2026-10-12T20:44:12Z-20:44:13Z UTC, curl 8, GET, no key.

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
