   in openFDA's own NDC directory with `marketing_start_date: 2026-10-08` — a real,
   currently marketed product. Four days later, RxNorm's `ndcstatus.json` answers
   `UNKNOWN` for the identical code. The drug exists; RxNorm's ingestion pipeline
   hasn't caught up to openFDA's own directory yet.

Both guides already warn about the general shape of this trap ("no results does not
mean the trial failed"; "RxNorm answers an unknown NDC with success and status
UNKNOWN, not an error") as abstract pitfalls. What was missing from the corpus was a
live, dated instance of each with the exact field path and exact codes — proof the
pitfall is not theoretical, with a receipt for each: PMID 16193898 and NDC
70518-4768, both live and real as of 2026-10-12.
