## Cross-source synthesis
Two unrelated probes against openFDA this session converge on one fact: openFDA's
drug data is not current, and the staleness is self-disclosed if you look.

1. A sweep of `meta.last_updated` across five `drug/*` endpoints (same minute,
   2026-10-12T20:41:11Z) showed a 3-to-74-day spread: shortages/label/NDC at 3 days,
recalls (`enforcement`) at 12 days, FAERS (`event`) at 74 days.
2. Independently, comparing openFDA's cached `drug/label` record for one specific
`set_id` against DailyMed's live SPL history for the identical `set_id` showed
openFDA serving version 54 (DailyMed's own posted date for that version:
2026-07-24) while DailyMed had already moved to version 56 (posted 2026-09-21) —
a ~2-month, 2-revision lag, confirmed by exact version numbers and dates rather
   than metadata alone.

The two methods didn't just land in the same ballpark by coincidence — `label.json`'s
self-reported 3-day `last_updated` describes when the endpoint's *index* was last
touched, not how far behind any individual label is from its DailyMed source; the
set_id comparison shows those can diverge by much more than the endpoint-level
metadata implies. An agent trusting `meta.last_updated` alone would underestimate
how stale a specific label can be.

## Derives from
Two sources in this lane: the five-endpoint `last_updated` sweep, and the
openFDA/DailyMed `set_id`-matched version comparison.
