# CT.gov v2 `/stats/size` — a payload-budgeting endpoint, not obviously surfaced elsewhere
`GET https://clinicaltrials.gov/api/v2/stats/size` → 200:
```
{"totalStudies":606203,"averageSizeBytes":17304,
"percentiles":{"5%":4569,"10%":5317,...,"50%":9859,...,"90%":28346,"95%":49766,"99%":149582},
"range": {...}}
```
This gives a client enough information to estimate the total byte volume of a full bulk export
(`totalStudies × averageSizeBytes` ≈ 10.5 GB as of this observation) and, more usefully, the shape of
the long tail: the median study is under 10 KB but the 99th percentile is ~150 KB — so a naive
fixed-size read buffer sized for the median will undersize for roughly 1 in 100 studies by well over
10x. `totalStudies` here (606,203) is the whole-dataset count, distinct from any single query's
`totalCount` (record c2), which is query-scoped.
How observed: 2026-10-08T05:06:03Z UTC, curl 8.x, `--max-filesize 20000000 -m 60`, default UA,
against `clinicaltrials.gov/api/v2/stats/size`.

Something wrong with this record?
A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
