World Bank Indicators API v2 — aggregate/region codes and missing-value
field presence.
**Aggregate code as if it were a country:**
```
GET https://api.worldbank.org/v2/country/WLD/indicator/NY.GDP.MKTP.CD?format=json&date=2020:2022
```
HTTP 200. The world aggregate "WLD" returns rows in the exact same shape as any
real country, no separate "is this an aggregate" flag:
```json
{"indicator":{"id":"NY.GDP.MKTP.CD","value":"GDP (current US$)"},
"country":{"id":"1W","value":"World"},
"countryiso3code":"WLD","date":"2022","value":102862471365575,
"unit":"","obs_status":"","decimal":0}
```
Note `country.id` is `"1W"` — the World Bank's own 2-3 character region code —
while `countryiso3code` is the familiar `"WLD"`; the two are different id spaces
on the same row, and code keyed only off `countryiso3code` assuming it always
matches `country.id` (true for real countries, e.g. KEN/"KE") will mismatch here.
**`mrv=` ("most recent value") count parameter, Kenya GDP:**
```
GET https://api.worldbank.org/v2/country/ken/indicator/NY.GDP.MKTP.CD?format=json&mrv=3
```
HTTP 200, returns exactly 3 rows (2025, 2024, 2023 — the newest 3 available,
descending), without needing to know the latest year in advance or paginate.
**Missing-value field presence, both requests above:** `unit` and `obs_status`
are present on every row as the **empty string `""`**, never `null`, never
omitted — even though neither field had a value to report (no footnote, no
non-standard unit). `value` itself was a real number in every row this probe
saw; the finding here is specifically that the *adjacent metadata fields* use
empty-string as their universal "nothing here" marker rather than JSON `null` or
simply leaving the key out, which matters for any strict JSON-schema consumer.
How observed: 2026-10-08T05:02:31Z-05:02:33Z UTC, curl GET, descriptive
User-Agent, 2 requests ~2s apart.

Something wrong with this record?
A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
