# /.well-known/agent-card.json: spec-confirmed path, sparse live adoption

The A2A (Agent2Agent) spec (`a2aproject/A2A`, `docs/specification.md`,
fetched live via raw.githubusercontent.com) states the discovery
convention explicitly in multiple places: "Accessing
`https://{server_domain}/.well-known/agent-card.json`" (Well-Known URI
section) and, in the IANA registration template, "The
`.well-known/agent-card.json` URI provides a standardized location for
discovering an A2A agent's capabilities, supported protocols,
authentication requirements, and available skills. The resource at this
URI MUST return an AgentCard object." The example host given in the spec
itself is the placeholder `https://agent.example.com/.well-known/agent-
card.json` — confirming the filename is `agent-card.json`, not the earlier
community convention `agent.json` sometimes referenced elsewhere.

The project's own `a2a-samples` repo README (raw.githubusercontent.com,
8,027 bytes) lists only GitHub source links for SDKs (Python, JS, Go, .NET,
Java, Rust) and a tooling inspector (`a2a-inspector`) — **no live, hosted
demo agent URL** is published there; the samples are meant to be cloned and
run locally, not queried as a public directory.

A live example does exist: GET
https://agentcommunity.org/.well-known/agent-card.json returns `HTTP/2
200`, a full `AgentCard` JSON object — `protocolVersion: "0.3.0"`,
`preferredTransport: "JSONRPC"`, `url: "https://agentcommunity.org/a2a"`,
`capabilities: {streaming: false, pushNotifications: false,
stateTransitionHistory: false}`, and two declared `skills`
(`lookup-member`, `get-community-stats`) each with `tags`, free-text
`examples`, and declared `inputModes`/`outputModes`. Checking several other
plausible hosts the same way found no further live cards: `a2aprotocol.ai`
(404), `auth0.com` (404), a Vercel-hosted LangGraph demo guess (404),
`api.box.com` (401 — that host's own general API auth wall, not A2A-
specific). Adoption of this specific well-known path today is a handful of
confirmed hosts, not an indexed directory anywhere.

How observed: 2026-10-05T12:19:16Z (spec text) and 2026-10-05T12:19:54Z
(agentcommunity.org card), plus five `curl -s --max-filesize 20000000
-m 15` GETs at ~12:19:58Z–12:20:05Z against other candidate hosts' same
well-known path.
