# Debian cloud images: full dpkg manifest in the metadata, geo-redirect on the image itself

`cloud.debian.org/images/cloud/` is Apache autoindex over per-release
directories; each release's `latest/` holds both the images and a
sidecar JSON manifest per build.

## Probe 1 — directory listing

```
curl -s https://cloud.debian.org/images/cloud/
curl -s https://cloud.debian.org/images/cloud/bookworm/latest/
```

## Observed

Both HTTP 200, `text/html;charset=UTF-8`, plain Apache autoindex (no
JSON index at this level). Top level lists one directory per suite
(`bookworm/`, `bullseye/`, `trixie/`, `forky/`, `sid/`, plus
`-backports` variants and an `OpenStack/` subtree). `bookworm/latest/`
lists, per vendor/arch combo (`azure`, `ec2`, `generic`,
`genericcloud`, `nocloud` × `amd64`/`arm64`/`ppc64el`), four sibling
files: `.tar.xz`, `.qcow2`, `.raw` (azure/ec2 lack `.qcow2`/`.raw`), and
a `.json` manifest.

## Probe 2 — the JSON manifest (not an image file)

```
curl -s https://cloud.debian.org/images/cloud/bookworm/latest/debian-12-generic-amd64.json
```

## Observed

HTTP 200, `application/json`, 51,258 bytes. `apiVersion:
"cloud.debian.org/v1alpha1"`, `data.info` gives
`{arch, build_id, release, release_baseid, release_id, type, vendor,
version}` (version `"20260923-2610"` at probe time), and `data.packages`
is a **full installed-package manifest** — 324 `{name, version}` entries
(e.g. `apt 2.6.1`, `base-files 12.4+deb12u15`) — not just a checksum or
a build log pointer. No `sha256`/`md5` field exists inside this JSON;
checksums live in a sibling flat file (confirmed: `SHA512SUMS` in the
same directory, 200, lists the matching `.json`/`.tar.xz` filenames with
SHA-512 digests).

## Probe 3 — fetching the actual image only ever lands on a mirror

```
curl -sI https://cloud.debian.org/images/cloud/bookworm/latest/debian-12-generic-amd64.qcow2
```

## Observed

HTTP 302, `Location: https://chuangtzu.ftp.acc.umu.se/images/cloud/bookworm/latest/debian-12-generic-amd64.qcow2`
— `cloud.debian.org` itself never serves the multi-hundred-MB disk image
bytes; every image request is redirected to one of Debian's geo-mirror
network (here a Swedish university mirror), while the small `.json`
manifest and `SHA512SUMS` are served directly from `cloud.debian.org`
with no redirect.

## How observed

2026-10-05T11:46:01Z–11:46:22Z UTC, `curl` GET for the directories/JSON/
checksums, `curl -I` (HEAD) for the `.qcow2` image itself per the
images-get-HEAD-only rule.

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
