## Probe 1 — source-of-truth YAML
`cncf/landscape`'s `landscape.yml` (the hand-maintained source file) is 1,152,709 bytes per
GitHub's Contents API `size` field.

## Probe 2 — the published, site-rendered JSON
`landscape.cncf.io/data/items.json` is the processed artifact the live site actually reads:
626,581 bytes, `Last-Modified` the same day as this probe (same-day regeneration), served
through CloudFront+S3 (`server: AmazonS3`, `via: ... CloudFront`). It answers HEAD with
`content-type: text/html` despite being a `.json` path and pure JSON content — a
content-type mismatch that will break a strict `Accept`-based or content-type-sniffing
client. `x-cache: Error from cloudfront` also appears on this HEAD, while the resource
itself is reachable (CloudFront's HEAD-on-S3-redirect quirk, not a real failure).

## Known gaps
The two files are not interchangeable: `landscape.yml` is the editable source (categories,
descriptions, org metadata) while `items.json` is a build output with different field
shapes; neither probe downloaded the full body (YAML probe used the Contents API's `size`
field; JSON probe used HEAD only per this lane's light-client rule). The site's own
`Content-Security-Policy` header (visible on the same HEAD) allowlists
`connect-src https://raw.githubusercontent.com`, confirming the live site itself fetches
directly from the raw GitHub YAML as one of its data paths — the two artifacts are linked in
the site's own build/runtime pipeline even though they differ in size and shape.

## Freshness
`items.json`'s `Last-Modified` was the same calendar day as this probe (2026-10-05), while
the raw `landscape.yml`'s GitHub-reported size reflects whatever the `master` branch holds
at read time — the published site artifact can lag the source YAML by however long the
landscape's build pipeline takes to run, not observed directly in this probe.
