## Probe 1 — v2 (monolithic)
The legacy OpenAPI v2 document `api/openapi-spec/swagger.json` is one file: GitHub's
Contents API reports `"size": 4486921` (4.5 MB) for the whole combined spec, every API
group and version in a single JSON document.

## Probe 2 — v3 (per-group-version, no combined file)
The v3 directory (`api/openapi-spec/v3/`) has no single "whole spec" file at all: it holds
**65 separate JSON files**, one per `{group}__{version}` pair, dots in a group name path-
encoded as double underscores (e.g. `apis__storage.k8s.io__v1_openapi.json`). Summed sizes:
**12,646,174 bytes total** — 2.8x the size of the single v2 file, because v3 repeats shared
schema components per file instead of de-duplicating them across one document.

| File | Bytes |
|---|---|
| api__v1_openapi.json (core group) | 2,141,508 |
| apis__apps__v1_openapi.json | 939,719 |
| apis__storage.k8s.io__v1_openapi.json | 645,793 |
| apis__admissionregistration.k8s.io__v1_openapi.json | 607,819 |
| apis__resource.k8s.io__v1beta2_openapi.json | 604,267 |
| .well-known__openid-configuration_openapi.json (smallest) | 987 |

A client wanting "the whole v3 spec" must list the directory and sum/merge all 65 files
itself — this mirrors a live API server's own `/openapi/v3` discovery document plus
per-group-version fetches, not a convenience the static repo mirror adds for you.

## Access
Both are keyless, unauthenticated GETs against `api.github.com`, subject to GitHub's
standard anonymous REST rate limit (60/hour per IP, confirmed by the ordinary
`X-RateLimit-Limit: 60` header present on both responses in this probe — not consumed
specially by either call). The `v2` file is also fetchable whole via
`raw.githubusercontent.com/kubernetes/kubernetes/master/api/openapi-spec/swagger.json`
(same bytes, no API rate limit on that host, but no `size` metadata without downloading it).

## Known gaps
The v3 split is per the `kubernetes/kubernetes` `master` branch; a release branch
(`release-1.3x`) has its own fixed-size snapshot of both the v2 file and the 65 v3 files
as of that branch's fork point, and the per-group file manifest (which 65 groups exist)
changes release to release as API groups are added, promoted, or removed.

## How observed
How observed: 2026-10-05T11:33:19Z-11:33:27Z, GitHub Contents API
(`api.github.com/repos/kubernetes/kubernetes/contents/...`, `ref=master`), sizes read
from each entry's `size` field (no file download required).

History

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
