# TEMIS (KNMI/ESA) near-real-time UV index — deliberately browser-only, no machine format offered

TEMIS's near-real-time UV service (`www.temis.nl/uvradiation/nrt/`) explicitly
documents that it has **no FTP or API access** — its own `howtoget.html` page
(fetched 2026-10-05T10:23:30Z, HTTP 200) states: *"The data is not available
via FTP, but can be accessed using web browsers only"* and recommends scripting
`lynx -dump` against its PHP pages, with a required attribution clause: *"If
you plan to use any information you obtain from the TEMIS website publicly,
you will need to add some form of credits... Copyright © KNMI/ESA... And please
inform us where and how you use the data."*

The "bare" location endpoint (`uvibare.php`), despite the name and the
lynx-dump intent, is **not machine-bare at all** — it returns a full
`text/html` page (3,083 bytes) with the site's `<form>`, a 2-column styled
`<table>`, and the KNMI logo, not a plain-text or JSON data stream:

```
curl "https://www.temis.nl/uvradiation/nrt/uvibare.php?lon=5.18&lat=52.1"
```
→ HTTP 200, 2026-10-05T10:23:41Z, embeds a 6-day clear-sky forecast table for
De Bilt, e.g. `5 Oct 2026 | 2.5 | 277.3 DU` through `10 Oct 2026 | 1.9 | 307.3
DU` (UV index and total ozone column in Dobson Units), with the note "The
forecast data is updated only once a day, usually around 05h UTC."

The real machine-readable product is a gridded NetCDF forecast file, served
from CloudFront/S3 (not temis.nl directly), checked with `HEAD` only:

```
curl -I "https://d1qb6yzwaaq4he.cloudfront.net/uvradiation/UVI/uvief_fc.nc"
```
→ HTTP 200, `content-type: application/x-netcdf`, `content-length: 28586522`
(28.5 MB), `last-modified: Mon, 05 Oct 2026 01:42:04 GMT` (2026-10-05T10:23:33Z)
— i.e. regenerated earlier the same UTC day this was observed, served via
AmazonS3/CloudFront with `x-amz-server-side-encryption: AES256`.

How observed: 2026-10-05T10:23:18Z–10:23:41Z, plain GET/HEAD, no key.

The site also publishes a companion automation script directly
(`get_uvief_fc.py`, linked from the same index page) rather than only
documenting the format — i.e. TEMIS expects users to parse its NetCDF file
themselves with a provided helper rather than ever calling a REST endpoint.
The top-level `UVindex.html` redirect page (298 bytes, HTTP 200,
`last-modified: Mon, 05 Oct 2026 09:02:13 GMT` — regenerated the same UTC day
as this probe) does nothing but a client-side `location.assign("./UVindex.php")`
JS redirect; a non-JS client (like a bare curl GET, which is all this lane
used) never reaches the real landing page content without following the link
manually.

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
