# RIR delegated-extended stats files: daily cadence confirmed, format drifts between registries

## Probe 1 — RIPE NCC
```
curl -sS -D - "https://ftp.ripe.net/ripe/stats/delegated-ripencc-extended-latest"
curl -sS "https://ftp.ripe.net/ripe/stats/delegated-ripencc-extended-latest.md5"
```
Observed: `HTTP/1.1 200`, `Content-Length: 18086152` (18.1 MB), `Last-Modified: Sun, 04
Oct 2026 22:12:41 GMT` (regenerated the day before this probe — confirms daily cadence),
`ETag: "6ac2cf59-113f908"`. First header line: `2|ripencc|1791151199|260865|19700101|
20261004|+0200` — **version field `2`**. 260,869 total lines. The `.md5` sidecar
(`6980fba65a695a3eb8d4c90e5a1bfffb`) matches the locally computed MD5 of the downloaded
file exactly.

## Probe 2 — ARIN
```
curl -sS -D - "https://ftp.arin.net/pub/stats/arin/delegated-arin-extended-latest"
curl -sS "https://ftp.arin.net/pub/stats/arin/delegated-arin-extended-latest.md5"
```
Observed: `HTTP/2 200`, `content-length: 12827739` (12.8 MB), `last-modified: Sun, 04 Oct
2026 13:00:28 GMT` (also regenerated the day before — same cadence). First header line:
`2.3|arin|1791118821296|203471|19700101|20261004|-0400` — **version field `2.3`**, not
RIPE's `2`: the two registries' own stats files disagree on which spec version of the
shared RIR stats-exchange format they implement, in the very first field meant to let a
parser pick a schema. The `.md5` sidecar
(`81969967d579bf57c2f7f15962d159c5 delegated-arin-extended-20261004`) — note it names a
**dated** filename inside the md5 file, different from the `-latest` alias it verifies —
also matches the locally computed MD5 exactly.

## Format notes
Both files are `Content-Type: application/octet-stream` (not `text/plain`) and support
`Accept-Ranges: bytes` (both). Neither host serves `Content-Encoding`, so a client should
plan for 12–18 MB uncompressed text per registry per day — unlike the 20 MB light-client
budget, this is at the edge of what a single polite GET should fetch without range-slicing
if several registries are polled on a schedule.

How observed: 2026-10-05T10:03:33Z–10:03:54Z, GET (curl, 4 probes, md5 cross-checked).

History

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
