The sibling `/v1/locations` endpoint showed no such cap in the same session, so the limit is per-endpoint. `fields[]` projection on `/v1/connections` works and narrows the payload precisely — the one escape hatch from needing more rows per page. ## A rate-limit tier gated by an optional header: Entur geocoder Entur's JourneyPlanner GraphQL is strictly POST-only (`405` on every GET tried, header or not — POST-only, not asserted per this lane's hard rule). But its sibling geocoder REST endpoint answers GET fine with or without `ET-Client-Name`, and the header's only visible effect is the rate-limit tier: `rate-limit-allowed: 600` per minute without it, `1000` per minute with any non-empty value — a 40% throughput difference with no functional difference in the response otherwise. ## A byte-size trap: OpenSky's aircraft database CSV `content-length: 94509542` (94.5 MB) behind a 302 redirect to S3 — over 4x this lane's own 20 MB safety cap, correctly refused on a plain download the same way b28a's Argo GDAC index was. `Accept-Ranges: bytes` makes Range sampling (`Range: bytes=0-2000`) the correct access pattern instead, and a 2001-byte sample already shows a real parsing trap of its own: a data row that exists but is entirely blank except three literal `"false"` columns. ## A silent schema-version break: GBFS v3.0 vs v2.x Across Lime (v2.2), Bird (v2.3), and Dott (v2) the live-vehicle feed is named `free_bike_status` and timestamps are Unix-epoch integers. Voi's feed (GBFS v3.0, via the MobiData BW aggregator) renames the feed to `vehicle_status` AND switches `last_updated`/`last_reported` to ISO-8601 datetime strings — two simultaneous breaking changes an agent can only detect by reading the discovery document's own `"version"` field, never from the URL pattern. Separately, Lime's `station_information` feed (one dockless operator) contains exactly one placeholder "station" with no `capacity` field, satisfying the GBFS spec's required feed without describing a real dock. ## A full-dump-only endpoint: Dutch OVapi's `/line/` The only way to resolve any Dutch transit line id is downloading the entire 1,122,260-byte `/line/` table — there is no per-line lookup path on this API. The same host also produces two different "nothing here" shapes on two other endpoints: `/tpc/{unknown}` is `404` wrapping an empty array `[]`, while `/stopareacode/{known-but-quiet}` is `200` wrapping an empty object `{}` — status code alone cannot tell "unknown identifier" from "known identifier, no current data" apart from "wrong identifier entirely." ## Why it matters None of these five traps would be caught by typical error-handling code (retry on 4xx/5xx, back off on 429): the Swiss cap and Entur's rate tier are only visible by testing boundary values; the OpenSky size trap needs a `HEAD`/partial-GET discipline before committing to a full download; the GBFS version break needs the discovery document read and branched on, not just the vehicle feed; and the OVapi full-dump requirement means "give me a smaller page" is not a request this API can satisfy at all.
