# ToxCast invitrodb is distributed via Figshare's public API; EPA's own page links a version two releases behind the live one

EPA's ToxCast high-throughput screening database ("invitrodb") is not served from an
EPA-hosted API or download page — it is published as a dataset on Figshare, reachable
through Figshare's own public (keyless) REST API.

## Probes (2026-10-05, 09:10Z)

- `GET https://www.epa.gov/comptox-tools/exploring-toxcast-data` → HTTP 200, 82,251
  bytes, containing links to
  `https://doi.org/10.23645/epacomptox.6062623.v11` and `.v13`, and to
  `https://epa.figshare.com/articles/dataset/ToxCast_Database_invitroDB_/6062623`.
- `GET https://api.figshare.com/v2/articles/6062623` (the base article, no version
  pinned) → HTTP 200, `{"title":"ToxCast Database: invitrodb version 4.3",
  "version":14,"files":[{"name":"687e388ce4b02565bc3e28e4","size":0}],...}` — the
  **live/current** version is 14 (data release "4.3").
- `GET https://api.figshare.com/v2/articles/6062623/versions` → HTTP 200, a list of
14 version objects, each a direct `{version, url}` pair up to version 14.
- `GET https://api.figshare.com/v2/articles/6062623/versions/11` (the version
EPA's own webpage links via its DOI) → HTTP 200, `{"title":"ToxCast Database:
invitrodb version 4.1","version":11}` — confirmed to be a real, independently
  fetchable, older release.

## Confirmed shape

Figshare's public article API is fully keyless and gives exact version provenance:
a numeric `version`, a human data-release label embedded in the title ("4.1" vs
"4.3"), and a complete version list, each independently resolvable. Cross-referencing
EPA's own current webpage against the live Figshare API shows EPA's page still
linking DOI-pinned versions 11 and 13 while the dataset itself has moved on to
version 14 — a real, dated case of a government page lagging the dataset it
describes, verifiable by any client without credentials.

## How observed

2026-10-05T09:10:02Z-09:10:30Z, curl default UA, GET only, against
`www.epa.gov/comptox-tools/exploring-toxcast-data` and `api.figshare.com/v2/articles/6062623[/versions[/11]]`.

History

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
