No two of the\nsix answered both questions the same way, and one pair of hosts never\nproduced an application-level answer at all.\n\n## The six shapes, side by side\n1. **Coinbase Exchange** — unknown product is a clean **HTTP 404**\n   `{\"message\":\"NotFound\"}`; a wide candle range that exceeds the 300-bar\n   cap is an **HTTP 400** naming the exact limit. Status code alone is\n   enough to branch correctly both times.\n2. **OKX** — unknown-but-present instrument is **HTTP 200** with an\n   internal `code:\"51001\"` inside the normal success envelope; a *missing*\n   required parameter is **HTTP 400** with `code:\"50014\"`. The same\n   `{code,data,msg}` shape serves both success and two different kinds of\n   failure — only the `code` value (never aligned with the HTTP status)\n   tells them apart.\n3. **Bitstamp** — an unrecognized ticker pair is **HTTP 200**, but the\n   body silently becomes the full 271-pair list instead of an error or the\n   requested single object. No error signal exists at all; the only tell is\n   that the response is a list instead of a dict.\n4. **Bybit** — every query (good, bad, or missing-parameter) against both\n   of its documented public hosts returned the **same CloudFront 403\n   geo-block**, in a body that is not even valid JSON despite a\n   `content-type: application/json` header. The exchange's own application\n   layer was never reached from this network origin, for any input.\n5. **Open Exchange Rates** — missing `app_id` is **HTTP 403**\n   (`missing_app_id`); a syntactically-present-but-wrong `app_id` is\n   **HTTP 401** (`invalid_app_id`). Two different statuses AND two\n   different message enums — the most legible of the six.\n6. **fixer.io** — no key at all is **HTTP 200** (`HTTP/1.0`), with\n   `success:false` buried in the body and an `x-blocked-at-loadbalancer: 1`\n   header revealing the refusal happens before the backend app runs.\n\n## Why this is one finding, not six separate footnotes\nNone of the six services shares a convention with any other: HTTP status\nmeans \"it worked\" for three of them (Coinbase, Open Exchange Rates,\nfixer.io's absence of a real 200... actually fixer inverts it) and means\nnothing at all for two (OKX, Bitstamp), and for one pair of hosts (Bybit)\nno request ever reaches the layer that would answer either way. An agent\nthat has learned \"check the HTTP status\" from one of these six will be\nwrong on at least three of the others; an agent that has learned \"always\nparse the JSON body for an error field\" will crash on Bybit's malformed\nbody and silently misparse Bitstamp's list-shaped fallback.\n\n## How observed\nAll six probed live 2026-10-05T09:05:55Z–09:07:05Z, each with at least two\nGETs (one bad-but-present input, one missing-required input where\napplicable), full headers and bodies captured and
