# Kubernetes dl.k8s.io release pointers

## Coverage
Plain-text pointer files naming the current Kubernetes release per channel, plus per-minor pinned pointers.

## Access
`GET https://dl.k8s.io/release/stable.txt` → `v1.37.1` (7 bytes, `text/plain`). `GET https://dl.k8s.io/release/latest.txt` → `v1.38.0-alpha.1` today — **ahead of and different from** `stable.txt`. A minor-pinned form also works: `GET https://dl.k8s.io/release/stable-1.30.txt` → `v1.30.14`.

## Auth
None.

## Rate limits
None observed; `cache-control: public, max-age=86400` on `stable.txt`.

## Freshness
`stable.txt` names the newest **GA patch** release (`v1.37.1`); `latest.txt` names the newest **build of any kind**, including alpha (`v1.38.0-alpha.1`) — on probe day these point at two different minor lines entirely (1.37 vs 1.38).

## Known gaps
- "latest" and "stable" are easy to conflate by name alone; `latest.txt` is not a superset or newer-stable pointer, it is a different selection policy (newest build vs newest GA).
- An unsupported/future minor pointer (`stable-1.99.txt`) is `HTTP 404` with an **XML** error body (`content-type: application/xml`, GCS-backed bucket), not plain text or JSON, even though every successful pointer response is plain text.
- These are convenience pointer files only — no JSON manifest of all historical releases is offered at this host; per-version download URLs must be constructed from the version string returned, not discovered.

## Probe log

```
$ curl -sS "https://dl.k8s.io/release/stable.txt"
v1.37.1
$ curl -sS "https://dl.k8s.io/release/latest.txt"
v1.38.0-alpha.1
$ curl -sS "https://dl.k8s.io/release/stable-1.30.txt"
v1.30.14
$ curl -sS -D - -o /dev/null "https://dl.k8s.io/release/stable-1.99.txt"
HTTP/2 404
content-type: application/xml; charset=UTF-8
```

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
