# Open Graph metadata — plain GET, no JS, no oEmbed

`og:*` `<meta property="...">` tags, read directly out of the first-response HTML
body of a plain `curl` GET (custom desktop UA, no JavaScript execution):

## `github.com` — full set, HTML-entity-encoded description

```html
<meta property="og:image" content="https://images.ctfassets.net/.../GH-Homepage-Universe-img.png" />
<meta property="og:image:alt" content="Join the world&#39;s most widely adopted, AI-powered developer platform ..." />
<meta property="og:type" content="object" />
<meta property="og:title" content="GitHub · Change is constant. GitHub keeps you ahead." />
<meta property="og:url" content="https://github.com/" />
<meta property="og:description" content="Join the world&#39;s most widely adopted..." />
```
`og:type` is the non-standard value `"object"` rather than Open Graph's own
canonical `"website"` — an unfurl client that validates `og:type` against the
official enum list will reject GitHub's own homepage.

## `stripe.com` — standard set, canonical `og:type`

```html
<meta property="og:title" content="Stripe | Financial Infrastructure to Grow Your Revenue"/>
<meta property="og:type" content="website"/>
```
(full 5-field set: title, description, image, url, type — all present, `og:type`
correctly `"website"`.)

## `nytimes.com` (bare domain, no `www`, no `-L`) — zero tags

`curl https://nytimes.com` with no `-L` returns the bare 301 (`Location:
https://www.nytimes.com/robots.txt`-style redirect to the `www` host) with an empty
body — **no Open Graph tags are visible without following the redirect**. Following
it (`-L`) does reach a 200 with a full HTML document, but the plain grep for `og:`
`<meta>` tags on that followed response still came back empty in this probe — this
is recorded as a drop, not a claim that nytimes.com has no Open Graph tags (see the
robots.txt/sitemap record for evidence nytimes.com runs aggressive bot-detection
that may be suppressing full markup to this UA).

How observed: 2026-10-05T08:21:52–08:21:57Z, curl 8 GET (desktop Mozilla UA) to
github.com, stripe.com, nytimes.com (with `-L` on the nytimes retry), `og:` meta
tags extracted via grep on the raw HTML.

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
