# UK Web Archive (`webarchive.org.uk`) — fully down, static placeholder
Every path tested on `www.webarchive.org.uk` — the homepage, the documented
Wayback-compatible replay path (`/wayback/archive/timemap/link/<url>`), and the
documented CDX path (`/wayback/archive/cdx?url=...`) — returns the **same kind of
static placeholder**, not a working archive:
## `/wayback/archive/...` paths
```
GET https://www.webarchive.org.uk/wayback/archive/cdx?url=bbc.co.uk&output=json
HTTP/2 200, server: AmazonS3 (via CloudFront), last-modified: Thu, 25 Jul 2024
<!DOCTYPE html><html><head><title>400 Redirect</title>
<meta http-equiv="Refresh" content="0; url=https://www.webarchive.org.uk"></head></html>
```
159-byte body, byte-identical whether the path requested is the timemap endpoint or
the CDX endpoint — both are caught by a wildcard S3 object, not routed to any live
service. The `Last-Modified: Thu, 25 Jul 2024` on this redirect stub predates the
outage by well over a year — it was already the fallback for *undefined* paths, now
effectively the fallback for *every* path since nothing routes further upstream.
## Homepage
```
GET https://www.webarchive.org.uk/
HTTP/2 200, server: AmazonS3, last-modified: Thu, 23 Oct 2025
<title>UK Web Archive currently unavailable</title>
"The UK Web Archive is currently unavailable ... The British Library is continuing
to experience disruption following a cyber-attack and are working hard to restore
services. ... our buildings are open and we've released a searchable online version
of our main catalogue ..."
```
Served in English, Welsh ("Nid yw Archif We y Deyrnas Gyfunol ar gael ar hyn o
bryd"), and Scottish Gaelic. All HTTP 200 (not 503) — nothing in the response status
or headers signals "service down" to an automated client checking status codes; only
the body text does.
How observed: 2026-10-05T08:16:23–08:16:32Z, curl 8 GETs (nh-b24c-scout/1.0) to
www.webarchive.org.uk's wayback-timemap path, wayback-cdx path, and bare root; body
text extracted after stripping HTML tags.

Something wrong with this record?
A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
