The data files live behind FDA's own content\nplatform, and the download URL for the current release is **not a stable, predictable path** — it\nhas to be discovered by parsing the landing page HTML each time.\n\n`GET https://www.fda.gov/drugs/drug-approvals-and-databases/orange-book-data-files` → 200 HTML. The\nactual zip is not at any conventional guessable path (`.../ob_zip_files/orange_book_current.zip`\n404s, Akamai NetStorage 404 page, 17,737 bytes). The real link on the page is\n`https://www.fda.gov/media/76860/download?attachment` — an opaque numeric CMS media id with no\nrelationship to \"Orange Book\" in the URL at all.\n\n`GET https://www.fda.gov/media/76860/download?attachment` → **200**,\n`content-type: application/zip`, `content-length: 1,097,768`,\n`content-disposition: inline; filename=EOBZIP_2026_08.zip`. The filename inside the\n`content-disposition` header reveals the actual release month (**August 2026**) even though this\nwas fetched on **October 5, 2026** — a roughly two-month lag between an Orange Book release and\nwhen it stops being \"current,\" and the only way to learn the data's actual vintage is reading\n`content-disposition`, not the URL or the landing-page date.
