The real cause is that `datasets=` is an exact-match\nfilter against a controlled vocabulary (the National Map Collection Thesaurus, visible in the\nleaked `sciencebaseQuery` debug field), and `\"NotARealDataset\"` simply matches nothing in it.\n\n## The gotcha\n\nAn unrecognized `datasets=` value produces the exact same `total:0, items:[]` shape as a\n*legitimate* zero-result query (e.g. a real dataset with no coverage in a given bbox) — there is\nno way to distinguish \"your dataset name is wrong\" from \"your dataset name is right but there's\nnothing there\" from the response structure.
