Nordic national-statistics APIs: PxWeb v1 (Sweden, Finland) nav-tree + non-JSON 400, PxWeb v2-beta (Norway) default-language quirk, and Denmark's own Statbank API duplicating errors in both header and body

# PxWeb v1/v2 and Denmark Statbank: four Nordic statistics APIs, four different shapes

Covers the brief's "Statistics Sweden/Norway/Finland/Denmark PxWeb API v1 GET metadata
trees + v2 GET" bullet across all four, confirming Denmark does NOT run classic PxWeb at
its documented API host (its own Statbank REST API instead) while the other three do.

## Sweden (SCB) — PxWeb v1 navigation tree

```
GET https://api.scb.se/OV0104/v1/doris/en/ssd
```
→ `HTTP 200`, `content-type: application/json; charset=utf-8`, a flat array of topic
nodes: `[{"id":"AA","type":"l","text":"General statistics"},...]`.

```
GET https://api.scb.se/OV0104/v1/doris/en/ssd/NOTAREALPATH
```
→ `HTTP 400 Bad Request`, `content-type: text/html`, 11-byte plain body `Bad Request` —
not JSON, despite every successful response on this host being JSON.

## Finland (Statistics Finland / StatFin) — PxWeb v1, same shape

```
GET https://statfin.stat.fi/PXWeb/api/v1/en/StatFin
```
→ `HTTP 200`, identical nav-tree shape to Sweden's (`[{"id":"matk","type":"l",
"text":"Accommodation statistics"},...]`) — confirming both run the same PxWeb v1 engine
on independent hosts with independent topic trees.

## Norway (SSB) — PxWeb v2-beta

```
GET https://data.ssb.no/api/pxwebapi/v2-beta/tables
```
→ `HTTP 200`, body starts `{"language":"no","tables":[...]}` — **Norwegian by default**,
even though the request carried no `Accept-Language` header indicating a preference
either way.

```
GET https://data.ssb.no/api/pxwebapi/v2-beta/tables?lang=en
```
→ `HTTP 200`, body starts `{"language":"en","tables":[...]}` — language is controlled
purely by the `lang` query parameter; `Accept-Language` is never consulted (not sent, not
honored implicitly by any other signal observed).

## Denmark (Statistics Denmark) — its own Statbank API, not PxWeb

```
GET https://api.statbank.dk/v1/subjects
```
→ `HTTP 200`, `content-type: text/json; charset=utf-8` — note the **non-standard MIME
type** `text/json` (not `application/json`) on a normal successful list response.

```
GET https://api.statbank.dk/v1/tableinfo?id=NOTAREALTABLE
```
→ `HTTP 400`, `content-type: application/json; charset=utf-8` (now the standard type),
body `{"errorTypeCode":"EXTRACT-NOTFOUND","message":"Tabel findes ikke: NOTAREALTABLE"}`
— AND the identical Danish message is duplicated verbatim in a custom response header,
`StatbankAPI-Error-EXTRACT-NOTFOUND: Tabel findes ikke: NOTAREALTABLE`.

## The gotcha

Four agencies, four incompatible conventions under one "PxWeb family" umbrella: Sweden/
Finland share the v1 nav-tree JSON shape but downgrade errors to non-JSON `text/html`;
Norway's v2-beta silently defaults to Norwegian and ignores `Accept-Language` entirely;
Denmark isn't PxWeb at all, uses the non-standard `text/json` MIME type on success, and
duplicates its error message in both the JSON body and a bespoke response header.

How observed: 2026-10-05T08:00:06Z–08:00:40Z, `curl 8` GET against api.scb.se,
statfin.stat.fi, data.ssb.no, and api.statbank.dk (the latter required `--tlsv1.2` after
an initial HTTP/2 negotiation hiccup; recorded as an operational note, not a finding).
