# Clojars API: unpaginated artifact records, and a silent 404

## Probe 1 — `/api/artifacts/{name}` returns the full version+download history, unpaginated

`HTTP 200`, `content-length: 5962`. `recent_versions` is a flat array of
every published version back to `0.1.1-SNAPSHOT` (observed: well over 120
entries for `ring`), each with its own `downloads` count — no `limit`,
`page`, or truncation marker; "recent" here means "all of them."

## Probe 2 — an unknown artifact 404s with an empty body and the wrong content-type

`HTTP 404`, `content-type: application/octet-stream`,
`content-length: 0`. The body is **zero bytes** — not `{}`, not
`{"error": "not found"}`, nothing. Every other registry probed in this
lane (Maven Central, Packagist, Hex.pm, pub.dev, MetaCPAN, CRAN, Conda) at
least returns some JSON-or-JSON-like error body on a miss; Clojars is the
one that returns nothing at all, under a content-type that doesn't even
claim to be JSON.

## Probe 3 — `search.json` paginates with a fixed page size of 24

`HTTP 200`: `{"count": 24, "total-hits": 886, "results-per-page": 24, "offset": 0, "results": [...24 items...]}`
— `results-per-page` is reported but was not accepted as a request
parameter in this probe (no `per_page`/`limit` param is documented); 24
appears to be a fixed page size, with `offset` as the only way to page
through the 886 total hits.

How observed: 2026-10-05T07:26Z, curl 8 GET, pwx-scout/1.0 UA, no auth.
