**Google Artifact Registry / gcr.io**: the `/v2/` liveness ping demands a Bearer token (401), but an actual manifest GET for a public image works with **zero** Authorization header — the token dance is optional for real content, required only for the generic health check. - **mcr.microsoft.com**: no auth anywhere, ever, including the liveness ping (`200 {}`); the full repository catalog is openly enumerable with no pagination control. - **registry.k8s.io**: the liveness ping 401s exactly like a normal OCI registry, but every real manifest/tag path 307-redirects to a wholly different host (Google Artifact Registry) that answers anonymously — the auth-looking front door and the actually-anonymous backend are never visible in the same response. -
