# iRail (Belgium): fully keyless, but the undated base path is a permanent redirect to a pinned version, not an alias

iRail's public API (`api.irail.be`) needs no key and serves real Belgian NMBS station/timetable data, but the unversioned, undocumented-looking base path is not itself an endpoint — it is a `303 See Other` to the pinned current version:
```
GET https://api.irail.be/stations/?format=json
-> HTTP 303, Location: https://api.irail.be/v1/stations?format=json, empty body
GET https://api.irail.be/v1/stations?format=json   (following the redirect)
-> HTTP 200
{"version":"1.4","timestamp":"1791183295","station":[
  {"@id":"http://irail.be/stations/NMBS/008400319","id":"BE.NMBS.008400319","name":"'s Hertogenbosch",
   "locationX":"5.294278","locationY":"51.69042","standardname":"'s Hertogenbosch"}, ...]}
```
A client that does not follow redirects (common for minimal HTTP clients, or any client treating a bare `/stations/` guess as the real resource) gets an empty `303` body and no data at all, with no hint in the body about what changed — only the `Location` header says to go to `/v1/`. The payload's own `"version":"1.4"` field is unrelated to the URL's `v1` — "v1" is the URL-path major version, `1.4` is the iRail *dataset format* version returned inside every response.

History

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
