# Represent (Open North, Canada): `limit` silently clamps at 1000, `next` is host-relative, and a bad postcode 404s as HTML in an otherwise all-JSON API

**What it is.** `represent.opennorth.ca` — Open North's keyless Canadian civic-data API
(representatives, electoral-district boundaries, postcode-to-district lookup), the closest thing
to a general-purpose public API for Canadian electoral geography (Elections Canada itself
publishes static downloads and a results micro-site, not a queryable JSON API — see this lane's
drops).

## `limit` above 1000 is silently clamped, and the clamp is only visible in the echoed `meta`

`total_count` (3,810 representatives at observation time) is unaffected and still correct — only
`limit`/`objects` are capped — and the only place the clamp is visible is the echoed
`meta.limit` field; the HTTP status stays 200 and nothing else in the response flags a truncation.

## `next`/`previous` links are host-relative, not absolute

`meta.next` comes back as `"/representatives/?limit=3&offset=3"` — no scheme, no host. A client
that does `requests.get(data["meta"]["next"])` instead of `urljoin(base, ...)` gets a local-path
error, not a working follow-up request; every other JSON-emitting source in this lane (FEC,
Democracy Club, Dataverse, Socrata) returns a fully-qualified `next` URL.

## One endpoint breaks the API's own JSON contract on error

`GET /postcodes/0A0A0A/` (a syntactically plausible but invalid Canadian postal code) → **404**,
`Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8`, a full rendered error page — every successful endpoint in
this API returns `application/json`; this is the only path observed to answer with HTML instead of
a JSON error body, so a client's JSON-decode-on-any-status pattern breaks specifically here.
