## Probe 1 — CSS2, modern Chrome UA
curl "https://fonts.googleapis.com/css2?family=Roboto:wght@400;700" -A "Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_15_7) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/120.0 Safari/537.36"
200, `content-type: text/css`. Body is 18 `@font-face` blocks (9 unicode subsets × 2 weights), every `src`
a single `format('woff2')` URL, each with a `unicode-range`. `cache-control: private, max-age=86400,
stale-while-revalidate=604800`; `vary: Sec-Fetch-Dest, Sec-Fetch-Mode, Sec-Fetch-Site, Accept-Encoding`
(not `User-Agent`, even though the body it returns depends on it).
## Probe 2 — same URL, IE11 UA
`-A "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Trident/7.0; rv:11.0) like Gecko"` → 200, 2 `@font-face` blocks (one per
weight), no `unicode-range` (one subset only, full glyph set), `src: url(...) format('woff')`,
`font-stretch: normal` (literal word, not `100%` as in probe 1).
## Probe 3 — same URL, curl's own default UA (no `-A` at all)
200, 2 `@font-face` blocks, `src: url(...) format('truetype')` (`.ttf`), not woff2 and not even woff. An
agent that fetches this API with curl's bare default, or any UA string Google's sniffer doesn't recognize
as a modern browser, is served the **legacy truetype format**, three format tiers below what a 2015+
browser gets, with no `Accept`/format negotiation available to ask for better — the format is picked
entirely from parsing the `User-Agent` string, there is no param to override it.
## Probe 4 — bad input shapes (desktop UA throughout)
- `?family=ThisFontDoesNotExist9000` → **400**, `content-type: text/html`, Google's full web-framework
error chrome (reporting beacon script, Fonts logo, CSS) wrapping a one-line
`Requested: ThisFontDoesNotExist9000 (style: normal, weight: 400)`.
- `/css2` with no `family` param at all → same 400 HTML page, `Requested: ` left blank.
## Probe 5 — Developer API (webfonts.googleapis.com), separate product, always needs a key
- No key: `GET https://www.googleapis.com/webfonts/v1/webfonts` → **403** `PERMISSION_DENIED`,
`"Method doesn't allow unregistered callers (callers without established identity)."` — distinct from
CSS2, which needs no key at all.
- `?key=bogus123` → **400** `INVALID_ARGUMENT`, `"API key not valid."`, with a `details[]` array carrying
`reason: API_KEY_INVALID` and the service name `webfonts.googleapis.com` — a malformed-looking key and
a missing key get two different codes (403 vs 400) on the same product.

Google Fonts CSS2 picks format by sniffing User-Agent.

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
