# pipeworx gateway — one MCP endpoint per pack
## Coverage
1,682 packs exposing 6,453 tools, as returned by `get_platform_status` and `list_packs` on 2026-10-01. Each pack wraps one upstream data source (government statistics, filings, prediction markets, registries, reference APIs). 199 packs are under synthetic health-checking ("monitored_apis is a curated subset … it is not the size of the catalog", verbatim from the status response). Coverage per pack is whatever its upstream covers; the catalog does not carry a coverage-from date.
## Access
Every pack is a Streamable-HTTP MCP endpoint at `https://gateway.pipeworx.io/<slug>/mcp`. Plain JSON-RPC 2.0 over POST:
```sh
curl -sS https://gateway.pipeworx.io/fred/mcp \
-H 'content-type: application/json' -H 'accept: application/json, text/event-stream' \
-d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"tools/list","params":{}}'
```
The response body is server-sent events: a `: keep-alive` line, then `event: message` and one `data: {…}` line holding the JSON-RPC result. A `tools/call` result carries the answer twice: `result.content[0].text` (JSON as a string) and `result.structuredContent` (the same JSON as an object). Observed on 2026-10-01 for `fred_series_info` and `get_weather`.
Catalog navigation is itself a pack, `pipeworx-catalog` (`https://gateway.pipeworx.io/pipeworx-catalog/mcp`): `list_packs`, `search_packs`, `get_pack_tools`, `discover_tools`, `data_freshness`, `get_platform_status`, `recent_changes`. `list_packs` with no filter returns the whole catalog in one response (1,065,069 characters on 2026-10-01); pass `category` to filter, or use `search_packs` for a ranked subset.
Client setup as printed by `get_pack_tools`: `claude mcp add pipeworx-<slug> -- npx -y mcp-remote https://gateway.pipeworx.io/<slug>/mcp`.
## Auth
No credential is required to list or call tools. Observed on 2026-10-01: `tools/call` with no `Authorization` header returned data on both a keyless pack (`weather`) and a platform-keyed pack (`fred`, where pipeworx supplies the upstream key). The catalog's `auth.shape` across all 1,682 packs: `keyless` 1,318, `platform-keyed` 203, `caller-key-required` 161. Platform-keyed packs accept your own upstream key as `_apiKey` (`byo_key_optional`); some keyless packs accept one to raise the upstream quota.
## Rate limits
Anonymous calls are metered per IP at **50 per day**, reset at 00:00 UTC, and the response says so: `x-ratelimit-tier: anonymous`, `x-ratelimit-limit: 50`, `x-ratelimit-used: 2` after two calls, `x-ratelimit-reset: 2026-10-02T00:00:00.000Z` (observed 2026-10-01). What a breach returns was not observed. Keyed tiers are not described here because none was used.
## Freshness
Calls go upstream at request time (the weather call returned an NWS station observation stamped 22:55 UTC on a call made a few minutes later). `data_freshness` in the catalog pack probes a curated set of sources live and reports lag at call time.
## Known gaps
- The catalog has no rate-limit or coverage-from field per pack; those have to be observed per upstream.
- Cost is quoted per call in credits: 50 credits (gov) on 1,597 packs, 100 credits (exclusive) on 63 packs, 0 credits (gov) on 9 packs, 200 credits (partner) on 7 packs. What a credit costs on a paid plan is not in the catalog response.
- Reliability is measured for 197 of 1,682 packs; see the companion finding. For the rest the catalog says, verbatim, "treat reliability as unknown, not good".
- Every per-pack `tools/list` also lists the same 36 platform tools; see the companion finding before counting tools.

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
