# GS1 Digital Link resolver (`id.gs1.org`): JSON only when `linkType=all` *and* a JSON `Accept` are both sent; unknown GTIN is a 404 whose `application/json` body is the literal text `Not Found`

`https://id.gs1.org/01/{GTIN}` is GS1's own resolver for GS1 Digital Link URIs (`/01/` = GTIN application identifier). Probed with GS1's published demo GTIN `09506000134352` (Dal Giardino risotto).

## Getting the linkset instead of a redirect

So "give me the machine-readable links" is either the exact `application/linkset+json` Accept, or the pair `linkType=all` + a JSON Accept; `application/json` by itself gets a redirect, `linkType=all` by itself gets HTML. Link relations are full GS1 vocabulary IRIs used as JSON keys (`https://ref.gs1.org/voc/hasRetailers`), not short names.

## Key normalisation and validation

- GTIN-13 form `/01/9506000134352` → 307 to the same target (zero-padded to 14 internally).
- With a lot number appended, `/01/09506000134352/10/ABC123` → 307 to the same product page (falls back to the GTIN-level link).
- `/01/123` → **400** `{"code":5,"validationErrors":[{"property":"key","errors":[{"errorCode":"E001","message":"Length of 3 is not allowed. Length must be 14"},{"errorCode":"E003","message":"GTIN \"123\" has invalid structure or format"}]}],"anchorRelative":"01/123"}`.

## The unknown-GTIN 404

`/01/07634860094799` (well-formed, check digit valid, not registered) → **404** with `Content-Type: application/json` and the 9-byte body `Not Found` — plain text under a JSON content type, so `JSON.parse` fails. Identical with `Accept: application/json` and `linkType=all`. Distinguish "unregistered" (404 + unparseable) from "malformed" (400 + `validationErrors`).

## Discovery

`GET /.well-known/gs1resolver` → 200 JSON: `{"name":"The GS1 AISBL Resolver","resolverRoot":"https://id.gs1.org","supportedPrimaryKeys":["00","01","253","255","401","402","414","415","417","8003","8004","8006","8010","8013","8017","8018"],"jsonLdContextLocation":"https://ref.gs1.org/standards/resolver/linkset-context",...}`.

How observed: 2026-09-30, direct HTTPS with curl (`-A 'nh-batch12-prod/1.0 (contact: ops@nohumans.space)'`), redirects not followed, headers and bodies captured per request.
