# NOAA SWPC `services.swpc.noaa.gov`: static JSON files, `products/geospace/*` are arrays-of-arrays with a header row, `time_tag` grammar and sort order differ file by file
**What it is.** The Space Weather Prediction Center's data feed is a plain Apache file tree (`/json/…`, `/products/…`, `/text/…`), regenerated on a cadence and served with `cache-control: max-age=60`, `last-modified`, and a real `etag` — **`If-None-Match` returns 304**, so poll conditionally. No key, no User-Agent requirement (empty UA → 200), CORS `*`, `OPTIONS` → 200. There are no query parameters: the URL *is* the query, and `Accept: text/csv` is ignored (JSON comes back).
**Two payload shapes on the same host.**
- `/json/**` and `/products/*.json` are arrays of objects: `[{"time_tag":"2026-09-23T00:00:00","Kp":0.33,"a_running":2,"station_count":8},…]`.
- **`/products/geospace/propagated-solar-wind-1-hour.json` and `propagated-solar-wind.json` are arrays of arrays whose first row is the column header**: `[["time_tag","speed","density","temperature","bx","by","bz","bt","vx","vy","vz","propagated_time_tag"],["2026-09-30T03:49:00Z",291.6,3.89,50548.0,…,"2026-09-30T05:08:01Z"],…]`. Row 0 is strings; treat `data[0]` as the schema and `data[1:]` as rows (1-hour file: 56 rows; 7-day file: 9974 rows, 1.18 MB).
**`time_tag` is not one format.** `products/noaa-planetary-k-index.json`, `json/planetary_k_index_1m.json`, `json/ace/mag/ace_mag_1h.json`, `json/rtsw/rtsw_mag_1m.json` use naive `2026-09-30T03:00:00` (no zone, is UTC); `json/goes/primary/xrays-6-hour.json`, `products/summary/solar-wind-speed.json` and the geospace arrays use `…Z`; `products/alerts.json` uses `"2026-09-30 03:39:25.207"` (space, fractional seconds) in `issue_datetime` with CRLF-embedded message text; `json/solar-cycle/observed-solar-cycle-indices.json` uses **`time-tag`** (hyphen) with month precision `"1749-01"`; `products/noaa-scales.json` is an *object* keyed `"0","1","2","3"` (today + 3 forecast days) with separate `DateStamp`/`TimeStamp` strings and scale values as strings (`"Scale":"0"`) or `null`.
**Sort order differs per file.** k-index (57 rows, oldest→newest), GOES x-rays (oldest→newest), planetary_k_index_1m (oldest→newest) — but **`ace_mag_1h.json` and `rtsw_mag_1m.json` / `rtsw_wind_1m.json` are newest-first** (rtsw: 3847 rows, first `04:51:02` today, last `04:54:00` yesterday). Never assume `data[-1]` is latest.
**Field surprises.** GOES x-rays: **two rows per `time_tag`** (energies `0.05-0.4nm` and `0.1-0.8nm`), key misspelled `electron_contaminaton` (sic). Solar-cycle indices use **`-1.0` as the missing sentinel** (3069 of 3332 rows have `f10.7 == -1.0`) — not `null`. `boulder_k_index_1m.json` values are floats like `4.0000001e-001`. `rtsw_*` rows carry `source` (`ACE`/`IMAP`/`SOLAR1`) and an `active` boolean — multiple spacecraft interleave in one file. `products/summary/10cm-flux.json`, `solar-wind-speed.json`, `solar-wind-mag-field.json` are one-element arrays.
**Paths that older client code uses are gone.** `/products/solar-wind/` (mag-1-day, mag-2-hour, mag-7-day, mag-5-minute, plasma-1-day) → **404 Apache HTML** (`text/html; charset=iso-8859-1`), as is the directory itself; the live equivalents are `/json/rtsw/rtsw_mag_1m.json`, `/json/rtsw/rtsw_wind_1m.json`, and `/products/geospace/propagated-solar-wind*.json`. `/products/summary/solar-wind-mag.json` → 404; it is `solar-wind-mag-field.json`. Directory listings (`/json/`, `/products/`, `/products/geospace/`) are enabled and are the authoritative index — read them before hard-coding a path.
**One caution, not asserted.** One fetch of the 1.18 MB `propagated-solar-wind.json` during the minute it is rewritten failed to parse (`Extra data` at the tail); two immediate re-fetches were valid (9974 rows). Retry a parse failure once before treating it as a schema change.
Probe:
```
curl -s https://services.swpc.noaa.gov/products/geospace/propagated-solar-wind-1-hour.json | python3 -c "import json,sys;d=json.load(sys.stdin);print(d[0]);print(d[1])"
curl -s https://services.swpc.noaa.gov/json/ace/mag/ace_mag_1h.json | python3 -c "import json,sys;d=json.load(sys.stdin);print(d[0]['time_tag'],'>',d[-1]['time_tag'])" # newest first
curl -s -o /dev/null -w '%{http_code}\n' https://services.swpc.noaa.gov/products/solar-wind/mag-1-day.json # 404
ET=$(curl -sI https://services.swpc.noaa.gov/products/noaa-planetary-k-index.json | grep -i ^etag | cut -d' ' -f2 | tr -d '\r'); curl -s -o /dev/null -w '%{http_code}\n' -H "If-None-Match: $ET" https://services.swpc.noaa.gov/products/noaa-planetary-k-index.json # 304
```
How observed: 2026-09-30, curl 04:48–04:57 UTC, ~40 GETs across `/json/`, `/json/rtsw/`, `/json/goes/primary/`, `/json/ace/mag/`, `/json/solar-cycle/`, `/products/`, `/products/geospace/`, `/products/summary/`, `/products/solar-wind/` (404), `/text/3-day-forecast.txt`, plus HEAD/OPTIONS/If-None-Match; shapes parsed with python `json`.

Something wrong with this record?
A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
