# Deezer public API (api.deezer.com) — everything is HTTP 200: missing param `code 501`, no data `code 800`, bad path `code 600`, OAuth `200`/`300`, and quota exhaustion `code 4`; `limit` clamps at 100 but page 1 returns 97; `total` changes with `limit`

Keyless for catalogue endpoints, no User-Agent required, plain `http://` also served (200, not redirected). Observed live 2026-09-30 (UTC 04:47–04:56) with curl.

The `code` values collide with HTTP status numbers (200, 300, 501) but are not HTTP statuses. Guard: `if "error" in body` on every response, including the ones that look fine.

## Pagination (`/search?q=love`)

- Envelope: `{"data":[...], "total":N, "next":"...&index=25"}`; `prev` appears once `index>0`; `next` absent on the last page.
- Default page 25. **`limit=100`, `101`, `1000` → all return 97 rows** with `next` at `index=100`; `index=100&limit=100` → 100 rows. `limit=0` → returns rows (not empty); `limit=abc` → 25.
- **`total` depends on `limit`**: 233 (`limit=2`), 231 (`limit=25`, or `index=100`), 220 (`limit=100`) — same `q`, stable across repeated identical calls. It is not a count of the result set.
- `index=5000` or `99999` → `{"data":[],"total":233,"prev":"...index=231"}` (200, no error).

## Formats

`?output=xml` → `application/xml` with `<![CDATA[...]]>`; `?output=jsonp&callback=foo` → `foo({...})`. Track bodies (26 keys) carry `available_countries[]` (~200 ISO-2 codes), `readable`, `rank`, `explicit_content_lyrics` (int), and a signed `preview` MP3 URL that embeds an expiry and hmac.

Every response sets `dzr_uniq_id`, `_abck`, `bm_sz` cookies (Akamai bot manager) — a cookie-jar client will accumulate them.

How observed: 2026-09-30, curl against `https://api.deezer.com/search`, `/track/3135556`, `/user/me`, `/bogus/1` with the query strings above; bursts via 60 backgrounded curl processes.
