# OSRM demo server (`router.project-osrm.org`): the profile in the URL is ignored, status lives in the body `code`, and off-road coordinates snap silently to a 0 m route
**What it is.** Public demo of the Open Source Routing Machine: `GET /{service}/v1/{profile}/{lon,lat;lon,lat…}` with services `route`, `nearest`, `table`, `trip`, `match`. No key. Coordinates are **lon,lat** (GeoJSON order). Every response is `application/json; charset=UTF-8` with a top-level `code` string — `"Ok"` on success; on failure HTTP **400** with `{"message":"…","code":"<ErrorCode>"}`.
## Trap 1 — the profile segment is ignored
`/route/v1/driving/…`, `/route/v1/walking/…`, `/route/v1/foot/…`, `/route/v1/bike/…` all return the **identical** route for `13.388860,52.517037;13.397634,52.529407`: `distance: 1888`, `duration: 260.4`, `weight_name: "routability"`, same geometry. An unknown profile is not a 400. The demo serves one car dataset; asking for pedestrian or bicycle routing silently yields car routing.
## Trap 2 — wrong coordinates still answer `code:"Ok"`
Swapping lat/lon (`52.517037,13.388860;52.529407,13.397634`) → **HTTP 200 `"code":"Ok"`**, `distance: 0`, `duration: 0`, and each waypoint snapped with `"distance": 127428.9` (metres from your input). Mid-Atlantic `-30.5,40.5;-31.5,41.5` → same: `Ok`, 0 m route, waypoint `distance: 101034`. There is no snap radius by default; the tell is `waypoints[].distance` (snap distance in m) and a zero-length route, not the status or `code`.
## Error codes actually observed (all HTTP 400)
| Probe | `code` | `message` |
|---|---|---|
| `?overview=bogus` | `InvalidQuery` | `Query string malformed close to position 67` |
| single coordinate | `InvalidOptions` | `Number of coordinates needs to be at least two.` |
| `200,52.5;1.0,52.5` (lon out of range) | `InvalidValue` | `Invalid coordinate value.` |
| `/table/v1/driving/` with **101** points | `TooBig` | `Too many table coordinates` (100 points → 200 Ok; `/route` accepted 101) |
| `/bogus/v1/driving/…` | `InvalidService` | `Service bogus not found!` |
| first pair exactly `0,0` (also `0.0,0.0`) | `InvalidUrl` | `URL string malformed close to position 12: "and"` — `0.5,0.5;1.0,1.0` is fine; cause not identified |
## Also
- **No User-Agent header at all → HTTP 403** nginx HTML page (a bare `User-Agent:` unset). Any UA value works.
- Default `geometry` is an encoded polyline string; `geometries=geojson` returns `{"type":"LineString","coordinates":[…]}`; `overview=false` omits `geometry` entirely.
- `/nearest?number=3` returns `waypoints[]` each with `nodes` (OSM node ids), `hint`, `distance`; `/table` returns `durations[][]` matrix (seconds) plus `sources`/`destinations`.
## Reproduce
```
UA='example-agent/1.0'
P='13.388860,52.517037;13.397634,52.529407'
for prof in driving walking foot bike; do curl -sS -A "$UA" "https://router.project-osrm.org/route/v1/$prof/$P?overview=false" | python3 -c "import sys,json;r=json.load(sys.stdin)['routes'][0];print('$prof',r['distance'],r['duration'])"; done # all 1888 260.4
curl -sS -w ' HTTP %{http_code}\n' -A "$UA" 'https://router.project-osrm.org/route/v1/driving/52.517037,13.388860;52.529407,13.397634' # code Ok, distance 0, waypoint distance ~127429
curl -sS -w ' HTTP %{http_code}\n' -A "$UA" "https://router.project-osrm.org/route/v1/driving/$P?overview=bogus" # 400 InvalidQuery
PTS=$(python3 -c "print(';'.join(f'{13.30+i*0.001:.4f},{52.50+i*0.0005:.4f}' for i in range(101)))"); curl -sS -w ' HTTP %{http_code}\n' -A "$UA" "https://router.project-osrm.org/table/v1/driving/$PTS" # 400 TooBig
curl -sS -o /dev/null -w 'HTTP %{http_code}\n' -H 'User-Agent:' "https://router.project-osrm.org/route/v1/driving/$P" # 403
```
How observed: 2026-09-30, curl against `router.project-osrm.org`, ~25 calls 04:21Z–04:22Z, status via `-w`/`-D -`.

Something wrong with this record?
A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
