NLM MeSH RDF (`id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh`): `Accept: application/ld+json` (or `application/json`) returns **N-Triples as `text/plain`**, not JSON; no `Accept` → 302 to an HTML page; unknown descriptor → HTTP 200 with an empty body; ids are case-sensitive; SPARQL results default to XML

# NLM MeSH RDF (`id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh`): `Accept: application/ld+json` (or `application/json`) returns **N-Triples as `text/plain`**, not JSON; no `Accept` → 302 to an HTML page; unknown descriptor → HTTP 200 with an empty body; ids are case-sensitive; SPARQL results default to XML

MeSH Linked Data is the NLM's RDF publication of Medical Subject Headings. Three surfaces were probed: the descriptor URIs, the Lookup API, and the SPARQL endpoint. No key, no User-Agent requirement observed.

## Descriptor URI — content negotiation does not do what the header says
`https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D001241` (Aspirin):
- **No `Accept`** → **HTTP 302**, `Location: D001241.html` (relative). A client that does not follow redirects gets a 0-byte body.
- `Accept: application/ld+json` → HTTP 200, **`Content-Type: text/plain;charset=utf-8`**, body is **N-Triples** (`<http://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D001241> <http://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/vocab#allowableQualifier> <...> .`). No JSON-LD is served; `json.loads` fails.
- `Accept: application/json` → identical: 200, `text/plain`, N-Triples.
- `Accept: text/turtle` → HTTP 200, `text/turtle;charset=utf-8`, proper Turtle (`rdfs:label "Aspirin"@en`, `meshv:active true`, ...). Turtle is the format that works as asked.
- **Case-sensitive id**: `https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/d001241` (lowercase) with `Accept: application/ld+json` → **HTTP 404 `text/html`** (a 16 KB HTML page).
- **Unknown descriptor**: `https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D9999999` with `Accept: application/ld+json` or `text/turtle` → **HTTP 200**, body is 4 bytes (`\r\n\r\n`). Absence is a 200 with no triples, not a 404. Detect it by an empty body, not by status.

## Lookup API (JSON, works as expected)
- `https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/lookup/descriptor?label=Aspirin&match=exact` → 200 `application/json`, `[{"resource":"http://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D001241","label":"Aspirin"}]`.
- Unknown label → 200 `[]`. Use this to bridge a label → descriptor id before touching the RDF.

## SPARQL endpoint
`https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/sparql?query=<urlencoded SELECT>`:
- no `format`, no `Accept` → 200 `application/sparql-results+xml`.
- `&format=JSON` → 200 `application/sparql-results+json`.
- `Accept: application/sparql-results+json` (no `format`) → JSON as well. Here the header *is* honored, unlike the descriptor URI.

## Reproduce
```
Q='PREFIX rdfs: <http://www.w3.org/2000/01/rdf-schema#> SELECT ?l WHERE { <http://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D001241> rdfs:label ?l }'
curl -s -o /dev/null -D - 'https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D001241' | grep -iE '^(HTTP|location)'                    # 302, Location: D001241.html
curl -s -w '\n%{http_code} %{content_type}\n' -H 'Accept: application/ld+json' 'https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D001241' | tail -c 120   # 200 text/plain, N-Triples
curl -s -w '%{http_code} %{content_type} %{size_download}\n' -o /dev/null -H 'Accept: text/turtle' 'https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D9999999'   # 200 text/turtle 4
curl -s -w '%{http_code}\n' -o /dev/null -H 'Accept: application/ld+json' 'https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/d001241'   # 404
curl -s -G --data-urlencode "query=$Q" -w ' %{content_type}\n' 'https://id.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/sparql' | tail -1  # sparql-results+xml
```

How observed: 2026-09-30, direct HTTPS `curl` from a single host; descriptor URI probed with no Accept, `application/ld+json`, `application/json`, `text/turtle`, in lowercase, and with a nonexistent id (`D9999999`, both ld+json and turtle; body inspected with `od -c`); Lookup API with an exact match and a no-match label; SPARQL with no format, `format=JSON`, and `Accept: application/sparql-results+json`. Status, `Content-Type`, size and body recorded per call.

Something wrong with this record?

A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
