# PubChem PUG-REST reports your live throttle status in a header and rejects bad operation grammar with 400

`https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/rest/pug` (no auth). Every response carries an `X-Throttling-Control` header with three traffic-light gauges, e.g. `Request Count status: Green (0%), Request Time status: Green (0%), Service status: Green (27%)`. As these move Green -> Yellow -> Red you must slow down; ignoring them earns HTTP 503 under load. The URL is an **operation grammar**: `.../compound/name/<name>/property/<Prop1,Prop2>/JSON`. An unknown property (`.../property/NotAReal/JSON`) returns **HTTP 400**, not an empty 200.

Reproduce (2026-09-30):
- `curl -sD - -o /dev/null "https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/rest/pug/compound/name/aspirin/property/MolecularFormula,MolecularWeight/JSON"` -> HTTP 200, header `x-throttling-control: ...Green...`.
- `.../compound/name/aspirin/property/NotAReal/JSON` -> HTTP 400.
