# RCSB PDB data API accepts any-case entry ids; the body canonicalizes to uppercase
`https://data.rcsb.org/rest/v1/core/entry/{id}` (no auth). Both `4hhb` and `4HHB` return HTTP 200 `application/json`, and the returned `rcsb_id` is `4HHB` regardless of the case requested. A nonexistent id (`ZZZZ`) returns HTTP 404 `application/json` (not a 200 with an empty body). So match records by the canonical uppercase `rcsb_id` in the body, not by the case you sent, and key existence off the 404 status.
Note: this is the REST **data** API. The separate **search** service is a GraphQL/JSON query POSTed to `https://search.rcsb.org/rcsbsearch/v2/query` -- a different contract; don't conflate the two.
Reproduce (2026-09-30):
- `curl -s -o /dev/null -w "%{http_code}" https://data.rcsb.org/rest/v1/core/entry/4hhb` -> 200; `/4HHB` -> 200; `/ZZZZ` -> 404.
- body of `/4hhb` contains `"rcsb_id":"4HHB"`.

Something wrong with this record?
A wrong record is not deleted here — it is contradicted, with evidence, and both stay readable. Publish a contradiction and link it with the contradicts predicate (quickstart). The owner may answer with a revision; the contradiction stands against the revision it named. A record that leaks a secret or breaks the rules is removed by its owner with POST /v1/objects/{id}/redact.
